The rise of Kpop into the international arena of music springs no wonder to fans all over the world. Kpop is colourful, LOUD, entertaining and always finding new ways to surprise fans and viewers alike.
It's no secret that I am a huge fan of korean pop group 2pm~ but lately my kpop fetish has gone quite out of control with the rise of new 'baby' boy and girl groups that just make you stop and stare, and later go "aaa this group is actually not bad..." Without me even realizing it, I'm actually constantly eyeing for these new idols' progress and cannot stop hearing their songs as well as watching their videos these days... yes... kpop is that addictive... *sigh*
A group that has recently been very appealing to me (aside from 2pm~) is the cute and colourful boy group B1A4.
The very essence of B1A4 is their ability to turn anything (and I mean anything!!) into cuteness, although the group may have not been aiming for cuteness in the first place. Take for example, their song 'Beautiful Target'. This song completely blew me away when I heard it the first time. The parts "I like it, like it like it!" were so addictive that I ended up singing it whenever I felt extremely happy or whenever I did something that pleased myself. Hahaha~ The music video played a huge influence on my addiction too. The scenes brimming with colourful backgrounds, eye-catching costumes and not to mention the adorable characters of the boys in this music video was enough to make me say "This group rocks!"
* Kpop has a way of either putting a song to glory with its amazing videos or either completely ruining it with music videos that didn't make sense or were just toooo disturbing... In my past cases, most of the not-so-appealing videos just did not make sense or just had no story which could actually relate to the song being sang in the video. I won't name any songs here for the sake of saving you the time of not checking these music videos out.
Anyway back to B1A4, ...yes B1A4 are cute and they are effortlessly cute! They don't need to show excessive aegyo (a korean term for cuteness) to portray their cheeky little boy characters~ They are naturally or should I say made to have that cute korean boy image~ Their latest song released this week (Baby Good Night) is also a track which would make fangirls scream with excitement~
The song is not your typical singing and dancing kind of song that kpop is so famous for. The song is sung with a style of whispering, a truly wonderful song to hear before you hit the bed~ It's calming and soothing~ Plus it's a pop ballad that would leave you singing along to the chorus even in your most sleepy state :p haha~
Boy group VIXX is a new addition to the large number of male idols already existing in the Kpop world. Although it often takes time for new groups to make way into the heart of fans, VIXX is one rookie group that did it with a good start!
VIXX's members were initially introduced through a reality program called Mnet Mydol. This reality program had already highlighted the boys' talents and strong points, giving them a strong following even before these boys came out into the world as idols. Good technique I must say as it lessens the need for massive advertising and promoting.
Their debut song 'super hero' actually has some resemblance to 2pm's 'Take Off.' I'm not sure what made me think that way, but I guess you could say it was the background beats. The chorus of 'Super Hero' is not extremely catchy, but it sticks to you after a while. It's smooth for a chorus which is often lacking in current newbie songs. This boy group may not excell in dance moves as portrayed by groups like B.A.P but it's also probably because the music video did not do the boys justice in the dancing scene. The MV (music vid) focused more on showing off the boys charms possibly to catch the fans hearts first before showing off the other sets of talents of the boys. Although the MV was dance lacking (in my opinion) I did however enjoy the visuals shown and the whirling concept of the boys going upside down. Rather similar to U-kiss' Binguel Binguel video, VIXX's one is more colourful and with their official 'logo' (the robot knight) popping out once in a while in cartoon-y backgrounds. They are definitely a group worth watching out for~
JYP's latest pop duo JJ Project also started off with a bang! Their debut song 'Bounce' is ranked high on various music charts and download sites which is a great achievement for a starter group. JB and JR, trainees under JYP Entertainment, both starred in the popular drama series Dream High 2 and have been gaining much love from fans since then.
'Bounce' is fierce, catchy and addictive to the ears. It is a solid debut song (as expected by the composer Park Jin Young) and is filled with unexpected beats. I didn't expect a pop song to suddenly have rock music in the middle, a technique which was used in JJ Project's Bounce! Applause to the song composer and singers for making it sound so good! JYP's experiment with new music styles in JJ Project has definitely been a success and a pleasant surprise.
If Bounce wasn't enough to drive you crazy, then their follow up track 'Before The Song Ends' featuring Suzy from Miss A, is a song that will. This song is equally as fierce as Bounce and is a really good dance track! In fact, I listened to this song more than I heard Bounce, which shows my preferrence for dance songs~ (sorry for this biasness of mine). Overall, JJ Project's debuting album is GOOD and to top it off, the music video was entertaining as well~ A mixture of dancing, popping, bobbing and much more awaits those who are to see the video in the future~! (This only applies to those who have not seen the video that is~ haha)
I guess that shall be all for Kpop for now~ I have loads more songs and groups to recommend, but I guess those shall have to wait for some other time~
I hope you enjoyed my suggestions and reviews! See you all in the future with more Kpop pleasure~
