Stationing the Stationaries

Are you a fan of super colourful stationaries???

If you are, then HIGH FIVE!!!! Cause I am one toO~ heeheeee

I especially love collecting japanese stationaries~ They are cute, unique and very pretty to look at~ Among my japanese stationary collection are FOLDERS!! They're handy for carrying notes around and they have many patterns to choose from~ Here are a few japanese folders that I own:

The folder selection that you see in the pic above were bought in Isetan (Stationary section), Kinokuniya, KLCC and Japan. I love collecting them as they come in many sizes! Some folders have more than just one compartment/separator so it really is useful when i'm carrying multiple-subject notes to classes~ weeee~
These mini folders (I call them mini as it is A6 in size) can be found at Isetan as well as Kinokuniya~ It cost RM7 per folder and has 3 separators (^^) The separators also have different patterns which I thought is a super cool and cute concept~

Other japanese stationary that I collect:There's definitely more where that came from, but this is among the few japanese brands of stationaries that I like and have been keeping in stock til today~ Not that I'm selling them, I just love having them around to look at and to perhaps use one day in the future~ (I wonder when that day will come hehe). Kutushita Nyanko has folders, notebooks, pens and even erasers in their stationary line.

Aside from folders, I also collect: NOTEBOOKS

Notebooks are must-have stationaries! A good notebook makes note-taking much more interesting and fun! Don't believe me?? Then get a good notebook today! A good notebook must not only have good paper quality, but it should have interesting front covers or fun paper designs on the inside~ This is of course my basic opinion regarding a good notebook~ Your opinions about it may differ :) Some of my friends love notebooks with colourful papers while others like theirs to be plain and simple... What's your choice?? :)

Notebooks that are worth collecting and investing (Some notebooks can cause a bomb!!) : Paperchase, Tokidoki, Moleskin, Moof and San-X

What other stationaries are important to you?? I find sticky notes very significant especially when I mark pages in books and in my notes~

I bought my tokidoki sticker notes from Kinokuniya about a year ago. They're sold out now in Kino but there are still many other sticky notes to choose from in the notebook corner near the magazines area. The 2nd bunch of stickies (the penguins and colourful stuff) are from Parkson. They are located at the kids stationary section and cost only RM6.90!!! These are great stuff to collect and are very useful stationaries to make your study/work life more colourful and amazing haha~!

So what has stationaries got to do with fashion?? Well there are many links and connections! Let's just say you walk to class one day without any accessories~ Pretty stationaries are able to substitute the lack of fashion accessories on you by just carrying around a super cute folder or even just clipping a colourful pen on your pocket~ A stationary can be a fashion stationary~ It does not have to be expensive and it can be found anywhere and everywhere~ So get your fashion stationary today and jazz up your own fashion style with them ;) Have fun peeps~

Book Shopping :)

About a month ago, the gov of Malaysia announced that it would give RM200 worth of book vouchers to university/college students :) These book vouchers are officially known as the 1Malaysia book vouchers. Some people may see this course of action as a form of gov propaganda to win the hearts of students but to me, I welcome this action with wide open arms (not that my heart was won over but I think this initiative is a good move by the gov)~ Say what you like about the gov returning tax payers money and such... It's true I do agree. But giving away these book vouchers has done more good than it does evil. So why complain???

A week ago, I took my book vouchers with me to Kinokuniya,KLCC with the hope of purchasing some good reads after a few months of a book 'hiatus'...Kinokuniya is by far the best bookshop in KL for me :) It has a good stock of books and has a very interesting range of stationaries (aaahhh heaven~~~) A bookshop without good stationary is a no no for me... call me picky but I just am~

Choosing a good book has always been a tough decision for me. I follow no particular author and I have no favourite book series... So my search for books are random (If i see something worth reading or if it seems interesting, I just BUY it!) On this very recent visit to Kinokuniya, I just happened to be visiting the Accounting section when a particular book caught my eye... and in the fiction corner another book also managed to make me halt in my place... The two books were:

1) Accounting Demystified, published by McGraw Hill (Price RM88.00)
I have been scouting for some accounting books lately as my next semester in university requires me to take up an accounting subject for my course (Analytical Economics)... Having no basics in accounting I thought I might as well just use the 3-week break I have to gain and perhaps build up some accounting knowledge, thus the resolution to find a good accounting book. I have seen a few books but some of them are just way too expensive... Some accounts books cost up to RM150 and it is not even more than a 100 pages... Good as those books may be, the price also seems to be 'good' as well...
This book however is a very interesting accounts book indeed. It not only teaches accounting in a simple and understandable way, but it also has a fun element to the book. It's like an accounting storybook with it's jokes and examples. The author of the book deserves a thumbs up for this :)

2) Orang Asli Animal Tales, written by Lim Boo Kiat, published by Tradisi Lisan Masyarakat Orang Asli (RM20.00)

What got me so attracted to this book was the illustrations and the variation of animal stories inside the book. I always enjoy reading these folklore tales about animals especially those from Malaysia itself. However, in this book you don't get the typical Si Kancil (Little Mousedeer) tales. This book has a variation of stories from bears to all kinds of shrews. The stories are short, just nice whenever I want a quick read while waiting, eating or even during those advertisement intervals on tv. (Is it just me or are the advertisements on Tv getting longer and longer??)
So yea this is an interesting little book filled with great illustrations and the best part is: It's a local book written by our fellow Malaysian authors (^.^)v

I didn't spend the whole of my RM200 1Malaysia book vouchers at Kino that day as I felt the other half could be spent on better books some other day~ I spent RM108 on these two books which I felt was a very good buy considering that I have been looking for a good accounts book and a mini read for quite some time... I had a wonderful time browsing through the shelves at Kinokuniya~ Maybe next time I should search for good books at Popular, BOrders, or MPH next :D

Till next time buddies~ This was Rin and her little experience book shopping with the 1Malaysia book vouchers~

MUET Duet

Hi there folks! How is your week so far???
Mine started off with me sitting for my English exam known as MUET in Malaysia~ (Muet stands for Malaysian University English Test)

The test I sat for today was a speaking test and just like any other ordinary test, exam nervousness attacked me first thing in the morning! YIKES!

Lucky for me my test session was the 1st of the day and it started at 8am in the morning!!!! Yes I am not kidding! 8AM! In fact, all speaking candidates of session 1 had to gather at the exam venue by 7.30am! ugghhh..... I was sleepy and nervous! Not a cool combination at all!!!!

My test went quite smoothly I should say... I probably should thank my groupmates for this as well ... :) We were grouped into groups of 4 and each group had a time slot for their exams. My time slot was at 9am so I didn't have to wait long in the quarantine room before the test started.

In the QUARANTINE room~
The quarantine room was really dull this morning... Possibly because it was really early and most of the candidates had been yawning since I first saw them outside of the quarantine room. Can't blame them for yawning though as I myself had been yawning every 2 minutes before my group was called out to enter our speaking test designated room. MOst of the candidates slept on the table, some even chatttered away to let the nervousness subside... What did I do? I did the former of course :p

My groupmates were a bunch of joyful Indian girls~ (they were the ones chatting non-stop in the quarantine room haha!) But the fact that they had already known each other prior to this test made me feel a bit left out during our group discussion (part B of the speaking module. Part A was an individual presentation). However, not all is lost as they were nice girls and they did give me chances to speak out my viewpoints as well as to voice out my opinions :) Thank you girls~!

The speaking test topic: The people important in our society
I would say that our test topic was rather vague as the term 'important in our society' gave this question a lot of ways of tackling it. But we did not go so deep into segregating each importance and just stuck to important as being 'IMPORTANT.' (I hope that you guys get me here...)

The choice of people given: Teachers, Doctors, The police, Religious leaders
Each of us were given a fixed role to talk about. We could not choose our choice of people yet in Part A of the speaking test. Guess which group of people did I have to vouch for? I'll give you a hint~ It's a group that handles very sensitive issues in our society~

Each of the candidates in our group was given 2 minutes each to present~ trust me 2 minutes in a speaking exam can seem like foreverrrrrrr~ I spoke less than 2 minutes which is rather odd for me as I usually can speak for hours/minutes with my friends.... Yes true the topic may not exactly be the topic of my choice but still... less than 2 minutes seemed odd for me.... oh well~

LAter in the group discussion we had to discuss and decide whom was MOST important in society. This was like an open discussion where anyone and everyone can voice out what they wanted to. My groupmates were really chatty so our discussion proved to be fun and quite fruitful in the end (^^) Yay~

Many people see speaking tests as hurdles in MUET exams as English may not be their mother tongues or first language. But trust me, there is really nothing to fear. If you are confident with your points, no matter how little English that you speak, all would turn out well in the end. So be confident and read up on some English materials before coming to an exam. A good English read would be the newspaper~ If you are feeling lazy to read then you can watch the news or even movies as it gives you a rough idea of how to pronounce certain words and it also helps to build up your vocab~ Do not and I mean DO NOT use the vulgar words in movies though! Even slanged words gain you no merit points in this exam~ So peeps taking your MUET anytime in the future, GOOD LUCK and BE confident! You can do it since I did it too~ :)

The pick of February~

Another round of our 'artist of the month' section is finally here!!! Who is it this time you ask???

I present to you the great creator of cute characters SIMONE LEGNO and his work of art TOKIDOKI!!!!!!
TOKIDOKI means "sometimes" in Japanese. As Simone's designs are greatly influenced by his interest in Japan and its culture, he choose the word as he felt "everyone waits for moments that changes one's destiny by chance or by meeting a new person." 'Sometimes' also implies rarity and this brand is definitely rare and unique in its own special way :)

So what makes Tokidoki so special????
Well in my case I fell in love with the characters Simone created! Just look at those things! They are super adorable! Simone's talent lies in his ability to transform anything into cuteness~ Grim reapers usually known for their scary skeletal appearances are made into this!
Simone's version of a grim reaper. In Tokidoki he is known as Adios~

Tokidoki has also managed to diversify itself into becoming a universal brand. What do I mean by universal??? Well TOkidoki has made many collaborations with well known international brands since the year 2009. From clothing lines, shoes, tech gizmos to toy makers and even makeup industries~ Among his famous collaborations are: Tokidoki for Hello Kitty, Sephora, Tokidoki X Marvel, Barbie, ONitsuka Tiger and a few others.
TOKIDOKI with Marvel Studios, Gelaskins, Sephora and Onitsuka Tiger

Putting collabs aside, Tokidoki as a brand itself remains a strong and much loved label~ It has apparels, bags, watches, tech gizmos (such as pendrives) and even skateboards under its name!!!! I personally love their bags! The designs are colourful, eye-catching and really pretty :D

I go GAGA for tokidoki bags! What about you??

So what are your thoughts about TOKIDOKI? LIKE it? LOVE it? Adore it?? (No haters please~ :D)

If you want to check out their online store and website, here is the link: http://tokidoki.it

Places where you can find Tokidoki stuff in Malaysia:

1) Parkson (bag section)
2) Urban Tee shops (For Tokidoki figurines and toys. They also sell their clothes)
3) Onitsuka Tiger outlets (There is one in the Gardens with a great variety of Tokidoki Collab shoes)

I hope that you guys (and gals) liked my artist pick of this month~ Till my next post folks~ Cheerio and have a wonderful week ahead~:D

YAYYYYYY! I'm finally done with my final exams~~~WEEE WEEE WEEEE~ *Starts jumping around like a maniac*
As promised I shall be posting more stuff from now on~ I have loads of things that I want to share and great internet sites that I would love to recommend~~~ hehehehehe

Now that I have 3 weeks of freedom, what do I intend to do? Well now... I shall list it down here:
1) Meet up with old pals
I've been pretty disconnected with the world lately... So these 3 weeks would be a great time to reconnect with old buddies and catch up on juicy life stories~

2) Read a good book
I haven't read a good book in ages!!! Aside from my economics and statistics textbook, I didn't have much time in the past few months to indulge myself with a good 'story' book... Any good reads to recommend???? Any genre would do~

3) Become a fashion paparrazi!
I have always admired those photo bloggers who just stop you at some random place (malls, markets, events) and ask if it's ok to take a picture~ I would love to do that too as I always see pretty interesting individuals with great fashion styles around! So right now, I shall always carry around a camera with me and get ready to ching ching ching those shots! :D

4) Watch the pending korean and japanese dramas that have been kept in my hardrive :p
Among them: Wild Romance, Skip Beat, The Moon that embraces the sun, etc..etc.... This is the only way for me to escape reality and enter a super romantic fantasy world~

5) To blog more~ Keeping this blog alive has been a new year resolution of mine! SO goo gooo gooo!

6) To watch Al-Jazeera's 101East documentaries
I just love these mini documentaries from Al-Jazeera. They keep you up to date with global events and situations. Some of their documentaries that I find interesting: The absence of divorce laws in the Philippines, the one-child policy in China, Kim Il-Sung's love for the Arts in North Korea... Please watch them whenever you are free~ I highly recommend their videos~

7) To fully memorize 150 Chinese writing characters!
Learning a new language is both mentally and physically challenging! But succeeding in learning it is a satisfaction that only the successful would know~
Mental- memorization (brain power!)
Physical- getting the courage to actually use the language without feeling shy and awkward in public

This is it for now.... 7 things in 3 weeks~ :D Can it be done?? Definitely! All I need is determination and self-willingness~ haha~ A productive 3 week holiday is in store! And it begins... NOW! :D

Goin Vintage on the Wrist

Ni Hao everyone! How was your holidays? I hope it had been a great one cause mine certainly was~ (despite the chills of my final exams approaching haha)

A personal favourite fashion accessory of mine are watches!!! I can't live without them! I repeat CAN'T!!!! It feels awkward when I'm walking around with a bare wrist. Weird I know... but I just CAN'T~ If people feel awkward not wearing clothes, then my hands feel awkward when they are not wearing watches... hahaha OK OK back to zee main business~

I recently have this crazy love for vintage looking things and watches are great looking vintage accessories that go with any style of clothing. Back in January I had a trip to Osaka, Japan and I was amazed at the amount of vintage clothes and accessories they had there!!!!! It was like Vintage heaven~~ One particular shop was an underground vintage fashion house (yes it was underground.. pretty cool concept I should say) and it had tons of gorgeous looking vintage things! Gaaaahhh! I regret not buying anything at the shop though.... Woe is me...

However, I did buy one watch in Osaka. Tiny but it is a work of art~

I bought this in one of those mini accessory shops located in Shinsaibashi. Its leather is really soft and although the face is tiny, the watch oozes with cuteness~ I fell in love with the watch at first sight! Trust me, watch junkies like me can be very picky with watches... so falling in love instantly with one is a rare game!~
Price range: 2545 yen (after discount)... before the discount it was about 3500 yen... Approximately around RM 110 after deduction~

Watches like these are rare in Malaysia. I'm talking about mini-sized vintage looking watches with cute metal buckles and glitter faces~ So when I came back I regretted not buying another one in Japan... Again... woe is me....

However, recently on a very random visit to KLCC, I found a shop selling vintage watches that looked rather similar to the watches in Japan~ It's a mini stall right in front of Marks and Spencer... It has quite an interesting range of vintage watches and the stuff only costs less than RM100 (half the price I paid in Japan yay!)

This wrap-around cuff watch looks really chic! It was only RM50 which I think is a really reasonable price for a watch.
Bored of the brown straps? This watch came in 5 colours and the red one looked really pretty to me. It has a vintage and punk look to it (possibly because of the rounded spikes....) but this duo appearance of the watch is an exciting feature don't you think?? This one was RM40 and the other colours were black, white, blue and grey.

Fossil has pretty good vintage looking accessories too (watches included). If you are looking for a more expensive and better quality vintage watch, I would suggest that you take a look at Fossil outlets.

So if you plan of owning some vintage watches, these places are recommendable places to visit~
Fossil KLCC, (there are other Fossil stores but I like the ones in KLCC and Pavillion hehehe), mini stall directly at the entrance of Marks and Spencer KLCC, and Japan :p
