About a month ago, the gov of Malaysia announced that it would give RM200 worth of book vouchers to university/college students :) These book vouchers are officially known as the 1Malaysia book vouchers. Some people may see this course of action as a form of gov propaganda to win the hearts of students but to me, I welcome this action with wide open arms (not that my heart was won over but I think this initiative is a good move by the gov)~ Say what you like about the gov returning tax payers money and such... It's true I do agree. But giving away these book vouchers has done more good than it does evil. So why complain???
A week ago, I took my book vouchers with me to Kinokuniya,KLCC with the hope of purchasing some good reads after a few months of a book 'hiatus'...Kinokuniya is by far the best bookshop in KL for me :) It has a good stock of books and has a very interesting range of stationaries (aaahhh heaven~~~) A bookshop without good stationary is a no no for me... call me picky but I just am~
Choosing a good book has always been a tough decision for me. I follow no particular author and I have no favourite book series... So my search for books are random (If i see something worth reading or if it seems interesting, I just BUY it!) On this very recent visit to Kinokuniya, I just happened to be visiting the Accounting section when a particular book caught my eye... and in the fiction corner another book also managed to make me halt in my place... The two books were:
1) Accounting Demystified, published by McGraw Hill (Price RM88.00)
I have been scouting for some accounting books lately as my next semester in university requires me to take up an accounting subject for my course (Analytical Economics)... Having no basics in accounting I thought I might as well just use the 3-week break I have to gain and perhaps build up some accounting knowledge, thus the resolution to find a good accounting book. I have seen a few books but some of them are just way too expensive... Some accounts books cost up to RM150 and it is not even more than a 100 pages... Good as those books may be, the price also seems to be 'good' as well...
This book however is a very interesting accounts book indeed. It not only teaches accounting in a simple and understandable way, but it also has a fun element to the book. It's like an accounting storybook with it's jokes and examples. The author of the book deserves a thumbs up for this :)
2) Orang Asli Animal Tales, written by Lim Boo Kiat, published by Tradisi Lisan Masyarakat Orang Asli (RM20.00)
What got me so attracted to this book was the illustrations and the variation of animal stories inside the book. I always enjoy reading these folklore tales about animals especially those from Malaysia itself. However, in this book you don't get the typical Si Kancil (Little Mousedeer) tales. This book has a variation of stories from bears to all kinds of shrews. The stories are short, just nice whenever I want a quick read while waiting, eating or even during those advertisement intervals on tv. (Is it just me or are the advertisements on Tv getting longer and longer??)
So yea this is an interesting little book filled with great illustrations and the best part is: It's a local book written by our fellow Malaysian authors (^.^)v
I didn't spend the whole of my RM200 1Malaysia book vouchers at Kino that day as I felt the other half could be spent on better books some other day~ I spent RM108 on these two books which I felt was a very good buy considering that I have been looking for a good accounts book and a mini read for quite some time... I had a wonderful time browsing through the shelves at Kinokuniya~ Maybe next time I should search for good books at Popular, BOrders, or MPH next :D
Till next time buddies~ This was Rin and her little experience book shopping with the 1Malaysia book vouchers~
